Croatian Club Makes Donation to Breast Cancer Voucher Program

The Croatian Club Lodge 80 in Smoke Run, Pa donated $10,743.00 to the Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute’s (BCWHI) Breast Cancer Voucher Program. BCWHI is a service of Tyrone Regional Health Network.

The Croatian Club raised the donated funds via a “Bras for a Cause” ATV Ride and Scavenger Hunt held Saturday April 9, 2016.

The ATV Ride and Scavenger Hunt was a huge success thanks to the generous support of sponsors, donors, event volunteers, support provide by the Coalport VFW Post #7043 and the Moose Lodge #1172 in Madera and the participation of more than 185 ATV riders from communities throughout the Central Pennsylvania region.  A variety of activities were conducted as part of the overall event including a “Bras for a Cause” t-shirt sale, donations to purchase “Bras for a Cause” sponsor cards to honor or remember loved ones and door prize drawings.  Participants in the “Bras for a Cause” event also enjoyed festivities at the Croatian Club following the event including a live broadcast with QWIK Rock 105.9 Lion Country’s Rock Station, games with chances to win great prizes and entertainment featuring DJD.

“Continuing the legacy and rich tradition of the Croatian Fraternal Union forefathers, the Croatian Club Lodge 80 works diligently to support local charities, youth athletics and the needs of our community.  We were overwhelmed and humbled by the support that was received for the ‘Bras for a Cause’ ATV Ride.  The support from the sponsors, riders, VFW, Moose, our members and the community was amazing.  We look forward to providing support to programs such as this in the future,” said Mike Terlinsky, President of the Trustees Croatian Club Lodge 80.

The Breast Cancer Voucher Program assists area women who are patients of the Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute (BCWHI) who have breast cancer and who are uninsured or underinsured by providing financial support. Women battling breast cancer and their families are profoundly affected by this disease and deal with many stressers. Among them are financial stressers. Costs associated with breast cancer care and recovery are numerous and significant. There are costs for direct medical care, transportation costs associated with cancer treatments, expenses for medical supplies and other items such as wigs and prosthetic bras.  Women who are underinsured or who do not have health insurance often find themselves with mounting expenses intensifying an already stressful experience.  Additionally, the process of cancer treatment and recovery is typically lengthy keeping working women away from their jobs which can significantly reduce a family’s income.

The Croatian Club conducts fundraisers year round to support charitable organizations in the community. To find out more about the Croatian Club, you can visit their Facebook page at
